About Us

Created in 1990 to provide a focus for the new estate being constructed at the foot of Bradgers and Warden Hills, the Bushmead Community Centre is a thriving hub for the Bushmead estate and wider catchment area of Barnfield Ward.

In the spring of 2016, with the local authority coming under increasing financial pressure, the future of the Centre looked uncertain. This was the point when a committee of local volunteers was established to make a bid for community management of the Centre. Their intention is to maintain continuity of the services currently available through the NHS facility, pre-school and the numerous community groups that provide popular and much-appreciated opportunities for recreation, learning and exercise.

The success of this group and the formation of a charitable trust to run the facility has led to reimagining of the facility and the birth of the Bushmead Community Hub. The Hub will focus on providing a strong focus for community activity and cohesion whilst running a viable facility to ensure it has a secure future. The building has a number of rooms to hire and is regarded as an accessible, good-value facility for the celebration of birthdays, location of councillor surgeries and venue for community consultation.

Through a combination of partnership working, volunteer engagement and a keen understanding of the needs of residents, we will provide new impetus for the Centre and demonstrate that it can continue to be run as a sustainable, valued community resource.

I use the centre on a weekly basis for my boxfit classes, which are an essential part of keeping fit for me. We also hired the centre for my Daughter’s wedding a few years ago, it is easily accessible with lots of parking for our guests out the front. She had a great day and when my son gets married next year we hope to hire the centre again #
